PZombie a post about books is never too long, so stop worrying!
I am also happy to say I have read everything you have suggested apart from one - so I back you up 100%! Reading this has also made me realise why I have had to buy boxes to store all my books as I have run out of space in my bedroom.
I would also suggest that after reading the LOTR (and the Hobbit of course) one should read the Silmarillion. It is absolutely fantastic - yet such a shame it was published posthumously by Tolkein's son; as some parts do feel a bit incomplete. It really opened my eyes to how much more Tolkein had created than just the events covered in his other books. He has created a whole history to a world just as extensive as our own.
I've also finished a few books since my last post that I found were worth mentioning - like the Hunger Games, Uglies, Divergent and many others mentioned in this thread they are mostly dystopian fiction (I seem to be drawn to reading more and more of this genre of late).
Anyways, I'm waffling now, here they are:
The Eve Trilogy by Anna Carey.
Legend and Prodigy by Marie Lu. (I feel this story line is unfinished and more will come out in this series soon).
Monsoon by Wilbur Smith. (Prepare yourself for a long read - worth it, though).
